Members-only WordPress content for Shopify subscription customers
A subscription app in Shopify (Shopify Subscriptions, Recharge, Appstle and others) knows whether each customer’s subscription is active, paused, failing or cancelled. RedeemID can’t read another app’s contracts, but it doesn’t need to. The app keeps a customer tag on subscribers while their subscription is active, and RedeemID opens your WordPress content for that tag.
1. Tag active subscribers
Use the subscription app’s own customer tagging if it has one, or its Shopify Flow triggers:
- Add a tag such as
subscriberwhen a subscription starts or resumes. - Remove it when the subscription is cancelled, expires, or pauses, if a pause should end access.
Check which events your app offers; each app names them differently. See Subscriptions.
2. Point a level at the tag
Create a Subscriber level for subscriber on RedeemID → Access → Levels. To keep complimentary subscribers safe from the app’s own removals, give them a separate tag such as subscriber-comp, and let the level match either. See Access levels.
3. Lock the subscriber content
Make a category, a post type, or part of each post require Subscriber. To let non-subscribers sample it, turn on the meter: signed-in readers without the level can open a set number of locked items a month. See Paywall rules.
4. Show members their dates
The Member Account block shows when a membership started and when it renews. To show the subscription’s own dates, have a Flow workflow set the membership.member_since and membership.renews_on customer metafields. See Start and renewal dates.
What happens on renewal, failure and cancellation
Nothing in WordPress has to run. A renewal leaves the tag in place, so access continues. When the app removes the tag, after a cancellation or a failed payment it gives up on, Shopify sends the change and the subscriber’s access ends. Retries, dunning and pauses stay the subscription app’s job.
The limits
- RedeemID follows the tag, not the subscription. If the app never removes the tag, access never ends.
- Every subscriber needs a Shopify customer account to sign in.
- Address changes, skips and plan changes are made in the subscription app’s customer portal, not on WordPress.
