Glossary
Customer account. The account a shopper has with your Shopify store. RedeemID signs people in to WordPress with it, so one account opens the store and the site. See One customer account.
Customer tag. A label Shopify keeps on a customer, such as gold. Shopify Flow or an app adds and removes tags; RedeemID reads them and never decides them. See Tagging customers with Shopify Flow.
Metafield. A named field Shopify keeps on a customer, such as membership.renews_on. RedeemID reads a few for display on the account card. They never change access.
Level. A named membership, such as Gold, defined as the tags that grant it. Content points at levels, never at tags, so renaming a tag doesn’t touch posts. See Access levels.
Feature. A capability a member gets, such as a download or a discount, defined like a level. See Features.
Rule. What an item needs to open: inherited from its post type and terms, or set on the item. See Paywall rules.
Gate. The Membership gate block: a members area and a non-members area in one post. Members get the first, everyone else the second.
Paywall break. A block that marks where the teaser ends. Everything after it is locked.
Teaser. The part of a locked item everyone can read: up to the paywall break, or the first few blocks.
Wall. What a reader without access sees in place of the locked part: the level’s call to action, a sign-in button, or a plan card.
Meter. An allowance of locked items a signed-in reader without the level may open each month or week. Counted per account on the server, with no cookie. See The meter.
Drip. Locked items that open a set number of days after a member joins.
Mirror. RedeemID’s copy of a linked customer’s tags and display details in WordPress, kept current by Shopify’s webhooks. Shopify stays the record.
Linked. A WordPress user tied to one Shopify customer. Only linked users can hold a level.
Shadow user. The WordPress user RedeemID creates for a customer who had no WordPress account. It has no password and no wp-admin. See Member accounts.
Webhook. A message Shopify sends when a customer’s tags or status change. RedeemID checks its signature and updates the mirror. See Sync and webhooks.
Resync. Reading a customer’s record from Shopify again, for one member on demand or for everyone when staff start it.
Event stream. The redeemid_event action and redeemid.subscribe() in the browser, which carry walls shown, meter use, checkouts and level changes to any analytics tool. See the Developer API.
Ability. An action or question RedeemID exposes to WordPress’s Abilities API, and through MCP to AI agents. See Abilities and MCP.
